Focus on stretching the internal rotators and strengthening the external rotators of the shoulders in this quick class. Recommended props: 2 blocks
The alignment lessons here are a revelation for me. Been practicing for years, and I'm sure I haven't consistently been attending to external rotation of the upper arms to stabilize and protect the rotator cuffs. In PT now for a slightly torn rotator cuff (not sure if it's from yoga practice or weight lifting or both. On the mend now). Thanks!
This class has helped me so much! I take the class about once a week to relieve the ache in my right shoulder. The cues have helped me use my arms/shoulders when I use my laptop as well.
Helpful for releasing stress and other emotions that can get bottled up in the shoulders. Thank you. Very relaxing
I have felt my posture deteriorating in the last ten weeks. Too much time in online meetings! This class has many excellent reminders and simple exercises that can be done separately throughout the day. Thank you.
Thank you for a very effective class....my shoulder feels much better
My husband, who never gets enthused about a yoga claaa, and has had rotator cuff surgery some time ago, really liked your class. So did I, a more seasoned yogi! Thank you!
Great quick class to help with shoulder tension and pain
I've been having shoulder tendonitis pain for some time. This practice really helps me relieve it. Definitely helps focus turning the shoulders the right way.
I loved her instruction for getting into down dog. The external rotation takes away all of the strain on the shoulders that I had never noticed before. Thank you!
Wonderful class! Olivia uses a nice combination of active and passive movements to really release the neck, shoulders, and chest. My posture feels strong, but my muscles feel eased. Two enthusiastic thumbs up!
thanks! very clear, simple and useful practice! will incorporate in my own home practice!
Olivia's specific instructions on how to engage the external rotators were so helpful - I have done warriors and dogs for years, but never felt how I was relying on the wrong set of muscles to get me there, and had a hard time even holding my arms out when using the correct external rotation. I look forward to getting those tiny external rotator muscles stronger, and floating a little less painfully. Thank you Olivia - please keep teaching.
This has become a go-to video for me. I have shoulder and neck alignment problems that trigger muscle pain and are my most common migraine trigger. This series is perfect for breaking the tension between my shoulder blades. When I'm really tight, I spend a few minutes before I start actively loosening my upper back by stretching informally - just whatever feels good, then I lay on a narrow medium block for a few minutes, sometimes wiggling around a bit to get my locked vertebrae to crack. By the time I finish this series, my muscle tension is completely relieved!
After a day hunched over a desk, this class was a godsend! I'm fairly certain this is the first time my shoulders haven't ached in savasana. Thank you Olivia!
Very clear instruction to understand the internal and external rotation of the arm. My upper back and shoulders felt lighter after the practice.
So helpful to my specific issues, with clear instruction. More from Olivia, please! She's very good.
I have chronic shoulder issues on one side. Following Olivia's voice into downward facing dog, I could feel those tiny shoulder muscles on the bad side screaming to be made stronger. Here I come tiny muscles!!! Thanks Olivia! <3
Would love to see more classes with Olivia, loved the clear instructions and making sure you had the proper form.
I have issues with internal flexion and posture. Sitting at a desk at work in front of a computer makes this issue worse. I have been working with my chiropractor who is very good. This practice is a great compliment. Felt better after first session. I will be incorporating this into my daily routine. Thank you for sharing these great tools.
Thank you for your calm and clear teaching. You are an exceptional teacher. B
Internal Flexion is a big issue for me on keyboard all day. This class by Olivia Barry gives fantastic instruction and clear identification of exactly what External Rotation is and how to attain it and use it as an "antidote" to the all day Internal Rotation.
